The yakisugi technique and oil coating makes this product durable, waterproof and pest resistant. Some simple maintenance will preserve the piece for many years.
A layer of plant-based oil (preferably Tung, Danish or Linseed oil) should be applied each year.
Although designed for outdoors it is best placed in a sheltered position to extend its life.
For disposal (after many years!) the wood is completely biodegradable and compostable. The screws can be reused or recycled.
